Thu Jan 30 00:25:34 IST 2025: ## Kejriwal Defends Yamuna Water Claims, Blames Haryana

**New Delhi, January 30, 2025** – Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal has defended his allegations of Haryana poisoning Delhi’s Yamuna water supply, blaming the issue on untreated waste discharged upstream. This follows a notice from the Election Commission of India (ECI) demanding evidence for his claims.

Kejriwal, citing a letter from the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) CEO, argued that high ammonia levels in the Yamuna are due to Haryana’s failure to control pollution. He maintains that his statements did not violate any laws or the Model Code of Conduct. While the DJB initially seemed to support Kejriwal’s claims, it later retracted its statement, asserting that increased ammonia levels during winter months are normal.

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, in a letter to Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena, accused Saxena of prioritizing political interests over public health in response to Kejriwal’s allegations. She highlighted that current ammonia levels are seven times the permissible limit. Saxena had previously objected to Kejriwal’s statements, calling them false and misleading. The controversy continues as the ECI investigates the matter ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.
