**Nagpur, India (January 29, 2025)** – Dr. S. Venkata Mohan, a renowned scientist and Chief Scientist at the CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT) in Hyderabad, has been appointed as the new Director of the CSIR-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI) in Nagpur.

Dr. Mohan brings a wealth of experience to the role, having served as Chief Scientist at CSIR-IICT since 1998. His impressive academic background includes a B.Tech in civil engineering, an M.Tech in environmental engineering, and a Ph.D. from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati. He has also held visiting professorships at Kyoto University and served as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow at the Technical University of Munich.

Throughout his career, Dr. Mohan has garnered numerous prestigious awards, including the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, the INAE-SERB Abdul Kalam Technology Innovation National Fellowship, and the Tata Innovation Fellowship. His research focuses on sustainability and the circular bioeconomy, with advancements in bioenergy, decarbonization, and waste valorization. He has supervised 42 Ph.D. scholars and boasts an extensive publication record, including over 450 research articles, 64 book chapters, five books, and 16 patents.

Dr. Mohan’s appointment is expected to further strengthen CSIR-NEERI’s research capabilities and its contributions to environmental engineering in India.
