Thu Jan 30 14:34:19 UTC 2025: ## Creative Movement Therapy Showcased at AIISH Workshop
**Mysuru, January 30, 2025** – A national workshop at the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) in Mysuru highlighted the benefits of Creative Movement Therapy (CMT) for individuals with speech and hearing challenges. Dr. Prakash M. Halami, chief scientist at CFTRI, emphasized CMT’s role in enhancing communication, emotional well-being, and cognitive abilities.
CMT, also known as Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT), uses movement, dance, and body awareness to help individuals express themselves when verbal communication is difficult. Dr. Halami explained that the therapy is adaptable for various needs, from children with developmental delays to stroke patients, improving motor coordination, sensory integration, and even vocalization. He also noted the supporting role of probiotics in enhancing the therapy’s effectiveness by boosting immune function and reducing inflammation.
The workshop, attended by over 100 special educators, allied professionals, and parents, aimed to train participants in using CMT with children who have communication disorders. AIISH emphasized the therapy’s effectiveness when combined with other therapies, such as occupational therapy and physiotherapy, in treating conditions like autism and cerebral palsy. The event underscored the importance of holistic therapeutic approaches for children with special needs.
