**COIMBATORE, January 30, 2025** – The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has officially commenced the expansion of Coimbatore International Airport, having taken possession of 470.17 acres of land on January 28th. This initial handover includes 449.59 acres of privately owned land (patta land) and 20.58 acres of government poramboke land. The AAI has begun surveying the acquired land to verify the area, and plans to erect compound walls following the survey.
The total land earmarked for the airport expansion is 632.95 acres, encompassing privately owned land, defense land, and government land across several villages. The remaining land acquisition, primarily involving additional privately owned land, is underway and expected to be finalized shortly through legal processes under the Tamil Nadu Acquisition of Land for Industrial Purpose Act. The AAI received permission to access the land last August.
This expansion project follows significant public demand for improved airport facilities in Coimbatore.
