**CHENNAI, January 30, 2025** – The Centre of Excellence for Pediatric Airway Surgery (CEPAS) at Kanchi Kamakoti CHILDS Trust Hospital has successfully treated three complex pediatric airway cases since its launch last year. The center specializes in treating children with rare airway malformations, either congenital or acquired, which often present significant surgical challenges.

The cases included a 10-month-old infant with tracheomalacia treated with Anterior and Posterior Tracheopexy; a four-month-old from Kolkata with tracheal stenosis and LPA sling who underwent Slide tracheoplasty with LPA sling repair; and a four-year-old liver transplant patient with suprastomal collapse who received external tracheopexy with PDS plate anchoring.

CEPAS is collaborating with Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, leveraging the expertise of lead tracheal surgeon Nagarajan Muthaialu, to provide comprehensive care for children with airway issues. Dr. Thirunavukkarasu, head of the Chennai Airway Team at CEPAS, emphasized the need to raise awareness among medical professionals and the public about reconstructive airway surgeries and the potential for tracheostomy tube removal.
