**Visakhapatnam, January 30, 2025** – Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Steel, Bhupatiraju Srinivasa Varma, announced that a special central government package will help the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) reach its full production capacity. Ahead of a visit by the Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy, Mr. Varma stated that the government had secured a revival package for the plant.
The package, totaling ₹11,440 crore, aims to facilitate the operation of all three blast furnaces and significantly increase steel production. Mr. Varma emphasized the government’s goal of boosting India’s steel production to 300 million tonnes by 2030, citing similar efforts at the Bokaro steel plant.
During Thursday’s visit to VSP, the ministers will address employee concerns, including the outstanding payment of three months’ wages. Mr. Varma urged both management and workers to cooperate to ensure profitability and criticized those who continue to criticize the government despite the announced package.
