At least 11 bodies were brought to a central hospital. Images show the chaotic aftermath, with people collapsing outside the post-mortem house. Following the tragedy, scheduled bathing rituals at the akharas (religious sites) have been cancelled.
Rescue efforts are ongoing, with authorities still searching for missing persons and attending to the injured.
