Thu Jan 30 14:40:00 IST 2025: ## Aussie Debutant Josh Inglis Blasts Century in Sri Lanka Test

**Colombo, Sri Lanka:** Australian batsman Josh Inglis made a stunning Test debut against Sri Lanka, smashing a century in the first innings. The Yorkshire-born player reached his hundred off just 90 balls, a feat only surpassed by Shikhar Dhawan’s 85-ball ton. Inglis’s knock, which included 10 fours and a six, propelled Australia to a commanding position. While he fell shortly after reaching three figures, dismissed for 102 by Mendis, his innings was a remarkable achievement. His parents, present at the match, were visibly emotional witnessing their son’s historic debut.

Inglis’s century is the second-fastest by an Australian debutant, eclipsing the efforts of Dwayne Smith and Prithvi Shaw. He is only the 21st Australian to score a century on debut, and the first in a decade, following Adam Voges’s achievement in 2015.

Australia, at the close of play on day two, reached a formidable 600/5, building on Usman Khawaja’s magnificent 252 and Steve Smith’s crucial 141. Alex Carey (25*) and Beau Webster (10*) remained not out. Further details on Smith’s century achievement can be found in a separate article [link removed as this is a summary].
