Wed Jan 29 10:55:30 UTC 2025: ## Belagavi Mother and Daughter Die in Prayagraj Kumbh Mela Stampede

**Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, January 29, 2025** – A mother and daughter from Belagavi, Karnataka, perished in a stampede at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj earlier today. Jyoti Hattarwad (50), a BJP worker, and her daughter Megha Hattarwad (16), were among the pilgrims participating in the holy dip at the Sangam confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya.

The family lost contact with the women this morning due to a network outage in Prayagraj. Confirmation of their deaths arrived later from a fellow traveler from Belagavi who had accompanied the group of 16 pilgrims, organized through Sairath Travel Agency. The pair succumbed to injuries sustained during the pre-dawn stampede.

Belagavi Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan has appealed for calm, assuring citizens that authorities are working with Uttar Pradesh officials and the South Western Railway to locate missing individuals. He attributed some missing person reports to the massive crowds and communication difficulties caused by the network outage. The DC urged anyone concerned about missing persons from the Maha Kumbh to contact his office in Belagavi.
