**New Delhi, January 29, 2025** – The Muslim Personal Law Board has strongly criticized the proposed Waqf Bill, accusing the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) of ignoring Muslim concerns and flouting democratic norms. The Board alleges that the JPC disregarded over 36 million emails opposing the amendments and the objections raised by numerous Muslim organizations, including the Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind and Jamaat-e-Islami Hind.
Spokesperson S.Q.R. Ilyas stated that the JPC’s inclusion of non-Muslim members in the Waqf Board and its overall handling of the bill are “unreasonable, undemocratic, and an infringement on the rights of Muslims.” He further condemned the BJP’s allies for supporting the bill, calling it a “communal agenda.”
The Board is urging all secular opposition parties to unite against the bill and demanding its withdrawal. Mr. Ilyas emphasized the Board’s commitment to protecting Waqf properties, stating that they are prepared to explore all legal avenues, including nationwide protests and potential civil disobedience, to prevent the seizure of Muslim properties. The Board views the proposed changes as an attempt to seize minority properties and considers this to be unjust oppression.
