**Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, January 29, 2025** – Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday criticized Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav for participating in the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. Adityanath, speaking at a private event in Lucknow, suggested Yadav’s participation was hypocritical, given the SP’s past political stances. He stated that even those known for “appeasement politics” were now seeking virtue at the Triveni Sangam.
Yadav, who took a holy dip at the Sangam on Sunday, had previously dismissed the BJP’s presence at the Kumbh as participating in “water sports” rather than a spiritual event. He emphasized that the Kumbh Mela is a place for virtue and charity.
The Maha Kumbh Mela, held in Prayagraj every 12 years, is witnessing a massive turnout. The Uttar Pradesh government reports over 140 million people have already taken a holy dip, with expectations exceeding 400 million before the event concludes on February 26. Over 55,000 police personnel are deployed to manage the event.
