**TIRUCHI, January 29, 2025** – Uncontrolled traffic flow near the Kollidam road over bridge and Yatri Nivas junction in Srirangam is causing major congestion and frustration for motorists in Tiruchi. The intersection, connecting several major roads, sees constant gridlock throughout the day due to the absence of traffic police, functioning traffic signals, and adequate street lighting.
The lack of regulation is particularly problematic for vehicles entering and exiting the Kollidam Flood Bank Road and those traveling from Thiruvanaikoil to the No. 1 Tollgate. The situation is further exacerbated by the reckless driving of mofussil buses and heavy vehicles, which often ignore the makeshift multi-color blinker lights installed to prevent accidents.
Local residents and motorists express growing concern over the dangerous conditions. M. Rangarajan, a motorist, described driving in the area as a “nightmare,” urging police deployment to manage the chaotic crisscrossing traffic. N. Saravanan, a road safety activist, suggested a comprehensive traffic study to address the issue, highlighting the numerous blind spots that increase the risk for motorists in the absence of a traffic signal.
Responding to the concerns, a senior traffic police officer stated that measures will be taken to deploy personnel around the clock and that road safety experts will conduct a study to determine the feasibility of installing a traffic signal. The situation highlights the urgent need for improved traffic management in this heavily congested area of Tiruchi.
