**COIMBATORE, January 29, 2025** – Lieutenant General Karanbir Singh Brar, General Officer Commanding of the Dakshin Bharat Area, emphasized the transformative impact of technology on modern warfare during a Wednesday address to students and faculty at Kumaraguru Institutions in Coimbatore. He stressed that conflicts now extend beyond traditional battlefields, encompassing cybersecurity, space, and cognitive warfare, where influencing populations through digital tools is a key tactic.
Lt. Gen. Brar highlighted the vulnerabilities of relying on imported technology, advocating for self-reliance through initiatives like “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat.” He cited India’s significant growth in defence exports, from ₹1,000 crore in 2015-16 to approximately ₹16,000 crore in 2023-24, aiming for ₹50,000 crore by 2029, along with a tripling of domestic production to ₹3,00,000 crore.
The Lt. General underscored the burgeoning role of geointelligence (GeoINT), leveraging AI to analyze data from satellites and drones for faster, more accurate decision-making. He encouraged students and researchers to explore this field and other areas of technological advancement within the defence sector.
The event also included a presentation by Rear Admiral Mohandoss on 12 ongoing advanced defence technology projects at Kumaraguru Institutions, collaborations involving DRDO, the Indian Armed Forces, and various industries. The Lt. General’s visit served to highlight the growing importance of technological innovation and self-sufficiency in India’s defence strategy.
