**New Delhi, January 29, 2025** – Tahir Hussain, a 2020 Delhi riots accused and AIMIM candidate for the Mustafabad Assembly constituency, began his election campaign today under police escort. The Supreme Court granted him six-day custody parole, from January 29th to February 3rd, allowing him to campaign for 12 hours daily. Hussain, a former AAP councillor, was released from Tihar Jail at 6 a.m. and interacted with supporters in Mustafabad, adhering to court orders restricting him from visiting his Karawal Nagar home (allegedly a site of the 2020 riots) and making public statements about the ongoing cases against him. The court mandated a daily ₹2.47 lakh security deposit to cover police escort expenses.
The Mustafabad constituency, with 288,902 registered voters, is witnessing a significant electoral contest. The BJP has nominated Mohan Singh Bisht, the AAP fielded Adil Ahmad Khan, and the Congress put forward Ali Mehdi. Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February 5th, with results announced on February 8th.
