**Mumbai, January 29, 2025** – A Bangladeshi national, Mohammad Shariful Islam (alias Bijoy Das), accused of stabbing Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, has been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody. The Bandra Magistrate court rejected a police request to extend his police custody, citing the completion of the initial investigation and the lack of new grounds for continued detention.
Islam, 30, was arrested in Thane after the January 16th attack on Khan at his Bandra apartment. Khan, 54, underwent emergency surgery following the incident and was discharged five days later. Police allege that Islam, who illegally entered India seven months ago and used a false identity, repeatedly stabbed the actor. The court noted that the police could seek further custody if new evidence emerges.
