**Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh –** Andhra Pradesh’s Minister for Human Resource Development and Information Technology, Nara Lokesh, has ordered a review of G.O. 117, a controversial order restructuring government schools. The order, issued by the previous YSR Congress Party government, merged classes III-V from 4,731 primary schools into 3,345 upper primary and high schools, leading to increased dropout rates.

Minister Lokesh instructed officials to develop a solution acceptable to all stakeholders, gathering feedback from teachers, students, and parents before making a decision. He emphasized the need to prevent further dropouts during the restructuring process.

The review also included discussions on the Teacher Transfer Act and the implementation of technology in education. Minister Lokesh mandated “No Bag Days” on Saturdays to encourage extracurricular activities and ordered the creation of a unified app for teachers, replacing multiple existing applications. Linking Aadhaar IDs to student records to accurately determine enrollment numbers was also prioritized.

Furthermore, the meeting discussed reforms for the Intermediate Education Department and the development of an “Andhra Pradesh Model of Education” blueprint, which will be presented to the public for feedback. The meeting was attended by key officials from the School and Intermediate Education departments.
