**Mysuru, Karnataka, January 29, 2025** – A construction worker, Saddam (32), died after a portion of the 108-year-old Maharani’s Science College building collapsed in Mysuru on January 28. Saddam, from Ghousia Nagar, was trapped in the debris and his body was recovered around 1 a.m. on January 29.
Thirteen other workers escaped the collapse, which occurred while preparations were underway for the demolition of the building. The building’s science laboratory section had previously collapsed in October 2022, after which it was closed off. The Karnataka government had recently allocated funds for the building’s reconstruction, and demolition work had begun just days prior.
Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy confirmed Saddam’s death. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway. The body has been sent to K.R. Hospital mortuary. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collapse.
