**TIRUPATTUR, January 29, 2025** – A 37-year-old lorry driver was arrested in Vaniyambadi, Tirupattur district, on Tuesday for illegally transporting river sand. V. Sasi Kumar, a resident of Chinna Mottur village, was apprehended while attempting to flee a police checkpoint on the Chennai-Bengaluru Highway (NH 44). Police stopped his sand-laden lorry and discovered the sand had been mined illegally from the Palar riverbed. Kumar has been charged and remanded to Tirupattur sub-jail. The lorry and the illegally mined sand have been seized, and an investigation is underway.
