Wed Jan 29 13:08:25 UTC 2025: **Thousands Flock to Srirangam for Thai Amavasai Rituals**

**TIRUCHI, January 29, 2025** – Tens of thousands of devotees thronged Srirangam on Wednesday to observe Thai Amavasai, a significant Hindu festival. The event saw a massive turnout at the Amma Mandapam bathing ghat, one of the most popular pilgrimage sites in the town. Devotees performed holy dips in the Cauvery River and participated in tharpanam, a ritual offering to ancestors.

The sheer number of people resulted in long waits, with some devotees reporting waits of up to an hour to secure a space to perform rituals and access priests. Priests from Srirangam, Thiruvanaikoil, and other areas were on hand to assist. Vendors also capitalized on the large crowd, setting up stalls selling flowers and puja items along the route to Amma Mandapam.

A local priest noted a steady increase in the number of devotees attending both Thai Amavasai and Adi Amavasai celebrations each year.
