Wed Jan 29 16:36:43 IST 2025: ## Kerala Congress MLA Proposes Law to Cook Wild Boars Instead of Burying Them
**Kannur, Kerala –** A senior Kerala Congress MLA, Sunny Joseph, has sparked controversy by suggesting a new law allowing the cooking of wild boars instead of their current mandated burial after being shot. Speaking at a United Democratic Front (UDF) protest march in Kottiyoor, Kannur, Mr. Joseph argued that the existing regulation, requiring the burial of wild boars shot with licensed guns after dousing them in kerosene, is impractical and wasteful.
He highlighted the scarcity of licensed firearms in the region – only one person in the entire Kottiyoor panchayat possesses a license – making it difficult for farmers to protect their crops from wild boar damage. Mr. Joseph’s proposed solution is to legalize the consumption of wild boar meat, suggesting a shift to cooking the animals with coconut oil.
The MLA’s comments, made in the presence of prominent party leaders including Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan and KPCC president K. Sudhakaran, were part of a larger UDF protest addressing the increasing problems of wildlife attacks and the resultant financial hardship faced by farmers in hilly areas of Kerala. The UDF, if elected, pledges to introduce legislation to make this change. The proposal has generated significant public discussion.
