Tue Jan 28 15:09:01 UTC 2025: ## ISRO Set to Launch 100th Mission from Sriharikota

**Bengaluru, January 28, 2025** – The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is poised to make history on Wednesday, January 29th, with the launch of its 100th mission from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in Sriharikota. The GSLV-F15 mission marks a significant milestone for the agency, whose journey began with a partially successful launch of the SLV-3 E10 in August 1979.

Since that first attempt, ISRO has undertaken a series of increasingly complex missions, including multiple launches of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV), Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV), and Launch Vehicle Mark 3 (LMV3). Notable achievements include the Chandrayaan lunar missions, culminating in Chandrayaan-3’s successful landing on the moon’s polar region, making India the first nation to achieve this feat. Other landmark missions include India’s first interplanetary mission to Mars (Mars Orbiter Mission) and its first solar mission, Aditya-L1. ISRO also holds the record for launching the most satellites in a single flight (104), a record later surpassed by SpaceX.

The SDSC’s location on India’s east coast was strategically chosen for its optimal launch azimuth, proximity to the equator, and large uninhabited safety zone. While ISRO has celebrated numerous successes, it has also encountered setbacks, with several mission failures along the way.

The upcoming GSLV-F15 mission represents the culmination of decades of dedication and innovation, solidifying India’s position as a major player in the global space exploration arena.
