Wed Jan 29 01:14:11 IST 2025: ## India Rejects Canadian Report Accusing it of Election Interference

**New Delhi, January 29, 2025** – India has vehemently rejected allegations of election interference in Canada leveled in a report released by a Canadian commission on Tuesday. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a strong statement denouncing the report’s insinuations, countering that Canada has a history of interfering in India’s internal affairs, contributing to illegal immigration and organized crime.

The Canadian Public Inquiry into Foreign Interference in Federal Electoral Processes and Democratic Institutions, headed by Justice Marie-Josée Hogue, investigated allegations of foreign meddling from several countries, including China and Russia. The Globe and Mail reported that the inquiry suspected the Indian government of using proxy agents to secretly fund candidates from three Canadian political parties.

The MEA statement asserted that these accusations are unfounded and called for an end to the support systems enabling illegal migration. The inquiry, launched in September 2023 following allegations by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, has been the subject of intense scrutiny in Canada. A previous report by Canada’s National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians last June revealed some parliamentarians were knowingly or unknowingly involved in foreign interference. India’s forceful rejection of the findings marks a significant escalation in diplomatic tensions between the two countries.
