Wed Jan 29 16:58:54 UTC 2025: ## ICC CEO Geoff Allardice Resigns Weeks Before Champions Trophy
**LAHORE, PAKISTAN** – Geoff Allardice, the International Cricket Council (ICC) Chief Executive Officer, has resigned from his position, effective next month, just weeks before the Champions Trophy One Day tournament in Pakistan. While the ICC’s official statement didn’t detail the reasons for his departure, sources suggest that issues surrounding the organization of recent events played a role.
Allardice, 57, joined the ICC in 2012 from Cricket Australia and served as acting CEO for eight months before his appointment in November 2021. In a statement, he expressed pride in his achievements, citing increased global reach for cricket and improved business foundations for ICC members.
However, a board member, speaking on condition of anonymity, indicated that Allardice’s handling of several issues contributed to his resignation. Specifically, they cited concerns over the organization and cost overruns of the ICC T20 World Cup in the USA, which is still under audit.
Despite this, ICC Chairman Jay Shah praised Allardice’s contributions, thanking him for his leadership and commitment. The ICC Board will now begin the process of finding his successor. The eight-team Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan from February 19th to March 9th, although India will play its matches in Dubai.
