**Hyderabad, January 29, 2025** – Family, friends, and union members protested outside Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad today, demanding justice for S. Ajay, a 21-year-old engineering student whose body was recovered from Hussain Sagar Lake on Tuesday. Ajay went missing after a fire engulfed a boat and jetty during the “Bharatha Matha Maha Harathi” event on Sunday, January 26th.
The protest, which included students from Ajay’s college, Geethanjali College of Engineering and Technology, began around 9:15 a.m. and escalated throughout the morning. Protesters chanted slogans demanding justice and refused to sign the post-mortem documents until their demands are met by Union Minister Kishan Reddy.
The family’s demands include ₹1 crore in ex-gratia, a government job for Ajay’s brother, and the filing of a case against the event organizers for allegedly hosting a fireworks display without the necessary permissions. The protesters plan a further demonstration at Minister Reddy’s residence. A 48-hour search operation concluded with the recovery of Ajay’s body, which was taken to Gandhi Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
