**Hyderabad, January 29, 2025** – Family, friends, and student union members protested outside Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad today, demanding justice for 21-year-old engineering student S. Ajay, whose body was recovered from Hussain Sagar Lake on Tuesday. Ajay went missing after a fire engulfed a boat and jetty during the “Bharatha Matha Maha Harathi” event on Sunday, January 26th.
The protest, which began at 9:15 a.m., involved students from Ajay’s college, Geethanjali College of Engineering and Technology. Protesters chanted slogans demanding justice and refused to sign post-mortem documents until their demands are met by Union Minister Kishan Reddy.
The family’s demands include ₹1 crore in ex-gratia payment, a government job for Ajay’s brother, and criminal charges against the event organizers for allegedly conducting a fireworks display without the necessary permits. The protestors plan to march to Minister Reddy’s residence in Barkatpura. A 48-hour search operation concluded with the recovery of Ajay’s body, which was taken to Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem examination.
