**Melbourne, Australia –** Northern Health is ringing in the Lunar New Year, which begins on January 29th, 2025, and marks the Year of the Snake. The hospital is celebrating the significant cultural event with a festive display in the Northern Hospital’s foyer, featuring artwork by renowned Chinese artist Mr. Jihua Wu.

The Year of the Snake, according to Chinese culture, symbolizes wisdom, intuition, and transformation. Northern Health staff shared their personal reflections on the holiday’s importance, emphasizing themes of family, renewal, and the hope for a prosperous year. Chief Medical Officer Prahlad Ho extended well wishes for a “prosperous and healthy Year of the Snake,” while other staff members highlighted the importance of family reunions and cultural traditions.

The display, a collaboration facilitated by Holly Qianhui Wu (Consumer Advisor at Northern Health and daughter of Mr. Wu), showcases the rich cultural tapestry of the community Northern Health serves. Mr. Wu, a veteran artist and calligrapher, contributed his artwork to the celebration.

Lunar New Year festivities are traditionally marked by family gatherings, symbolic foods, the exchange of “hongbao” (red envelopes), and vibrant cultural performances. Northern Health’s celebration reflects this spirit, underscoring the organization’s commitment to inclusivity and cultural diversity. The hospital acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land and celebrates the contributions of all community members.
