**New Delhi** – The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued a notice to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal, demanding proof for his allegation that the BJP government in Haryana poisoned Delhi’s water supply. Kejriwal made the claim on Monday, just days before the Delhi assembly elections, alleging the BJP was attempting to sabotage the AAP administration by contaminating water sourced from the Yamuna River.

The ECI’s letter, issued following a complaint by the BJP, states that Kejriwal’s accusation is a serious matter that could incite inter-state animosity and carries a potential three-year jail sentence under relevant election laws. The commission has given Kejriwal until 8 pm tomorrow to provide supporting evidence.

Kejriwal’s claim was immediately disputed by the Delhi Jal Board’s Chief Engineer, who warned that such statements could cause unnecessary fear and panic among the public. The ECI echoed these concerns in its letter, highlighting the potential for such unsubstantiated allegations to sway public opinion and disrupt the electoral process.
