Tue Jan 28 20:34:56 UTC 2025: ## Former Madhya Pradesh Constable Arrested After Month-Long Manhunt
**Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh –** Saurabh Sharma, a former constable with the Madhya Pradesh Transport Department, was arrested Thursday by Lokayukta Police after over a month on the run. Sharma, who had been under investigation for amassing disproportionate assets worth crores, surrendered to the court a day before his arrest.
The arrest follows multiple raids in December conducted by various agencies, including the Lokayukta, Income Tax Department, and Enforcement Directorate. These raids uncovered assets totaling over Rs. 7.9 crore, including cash, jewelry, silver, and a car containing an additional Rs. 10 crore in cash and 52 kg of gold. The agencies allege the assets were amassed through corruption and brokering of appointments and transfers.
Jaideep Prasad, Director General of Lokayukta, confirmed the arrest, stating that Sharma is being interrogated about his associates and his whereabouts during his time absconding. Further arrests of his associates are anticipated. Sharma’s lawyer, Rakesh Parashar, claims the arrest was illegal, stating Sharma was scheduled to appear in court before being detained.
Sharma, appointed in 2015 on compassionate grounds, voluntarily retired in 2023. Summons have also been issued to his wife, mother, and associates. The investigations are ongoing.
