Wed Jan 29 07:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Raducanu Falls in Three-Set Thriller at Singapore Open
Singapore – Britain’s Emma Raducanu suffered a disappointing first-round exit at the Singapore Open, losing a grueling three-set match to Spain’s Cristina Bucsa 5-7, 7-5, 7-5. The match, which lasted three hours and three minutes, saw 17 breaks of service, highlighting the fluctuating momentum between the two players.
Despite taking the first set after fighting back from 4-5 down, Raducanu was unable to maintain her composure. Bucsa, ranked 101st in the world, fought back strongly, winning the second set after recovering from 4-5 down herself. The deciding set was similarly tight, with both players struggling on serve. Raducanu briefly led 5-4, but Bucsa broke her opponent at a crucial juncture before serving out the match.
Raducanu, seeded seventh, had been playing for the first time since her Australian Open exit and the announcement that her coach, Nick Cavaday, was stepping back from his role due to health issues. Her second serve proved to be a particular weakness as the match progressed.
Meanwhile, British number five Jodie Burrage fell in the second round of qualifying at the Linz Open in Austria, losing to Antonia Ruzic 6-4, 7-6(7-1).
