Wed Jan 29 13:10:08 UTC 2025: ## Government Urges Airlines to Keep Prayagraj Flight Prices Low During Maha Kumbh

**New Delhi, January 29, 2025** – The Indian government intervened on Wednesday to address concerns about inflated airfares to Prayagraj, the site of the ongoing Maha Kumbh. The Ministry of Civil Aviation met with airline representatives to ensure adequate air connectivity while maintaining reasonable prices for pilgrims.

This action follows claims by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) earlier this week that airlines had increased fares by 200% to 700%, a move they termed “unfair and unethical.”

In response to the government’s appeal, IndiGo announced a 30% to 50% reduction in ticket prices on all routes to and from Prayagraj. The Ministry also reported that airlines had already added 132 flights to the city in January, with further increases planned. Akasa Air will add 21 flights from Ahmedabad and Bengaluru, while SpiceJet will increase service from Delhi, Chennai, Guwahati, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Jaipur, and Hyderabad. The government’s proactive measures aim to ensure affordable travel for devotees attending the once-in-144-years religious festival.
