**New Delhi, January 29, 2025** – A newly constructed four-story building collapsed in the Kaushik Enclave area of Burari, New Delhi on Monday night, resulting in the deaths of five people, including two young girls. Twelve people have been rescued from the rubble, but the rescue operation, involving police, fire services, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), is ongoing and may continue into Wednesday. Authorities fear more people may be trapped.
The building’s collapse prompted the Burari Sub-Divisional Magistrate to order the evacuation of nearby buildings for safety checks. The area has been cordoned off.
The building’s constructor, Yogendra Bhati, has been arrested and charged with culpable homicide.
The deceased have been identified as 17-year-old Saadhna, 7-year-old Radhika, and three unidentified men. Those injured are receiving treatment at local hospitals.
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and AAP Burari MLA Sanjeev Jha have announced compensation for the victims’ families: ₹10 lakh for the deceased and ₹5 lakh for the families of the minor victims. The investigation into the cause of the collapse is underway.
