Wed Jan 29 18:01:57 UTC 2025: ## Jayalalithaa’s Seized Assets to be Returned to Tamil Nadu

**Bengaluru, January 29, 2025** – A special court in Bengaluru has ordered the handover of valuables confiscated from the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa to the Tamil Nadu government on February 14 and 15. The assets, including silver articles and gold ornaments, were seized in connection with a disproportionate assets case.

The decision follows a long legal battle. In July 2023, the court rejected claims by Jayalalithaa’s niece and nephew, J. Deepa and J. Deepak, who sought ownership of the seized properties. Their subsequent appeal to the Karnataka High Court was also dismissed on January 13th.

The court’s order concludes a protracted legal process that began with the original seizure of assets and included a Supreme Court indictment of Jayalalithaa for criminal conspiracy to launder ill-gotten wealth. The extensive investigation tracked the flow of funds through Jayalalithaa’s residence, Poes Garden. The handover of the assets was previously scheduled for March 2024 but was delayed by the legal challenges.
