Wed Jan 29 12:51:18 UTC 2025: ## Mass Surrender of Maoists in Chhattisgarh

**Narayanpur, Chhattisgarh, January 29, 2025** – Twenty-nine Maoists, including seven women, surrendered to authorities in Narayanpur district, Chhattisgarh, on Wednesday. The surrender, attributed to disillusionment with Maoist ideology, internal conflicts within the group, and the impact of government development initiatives, represents a significant victory for security forces.

Narayanpur Superintendent of Police Prabhat Kumar stated that the cadres, belonging to the Kutul area committee, cited disappointment with Maoist ideology and growing internal dissent as reasons for their surrender. They were also reportedly influenced by development projects in the Maad area, including road construction, and expressed a desire to return to normal life.

The surrendered individuals held various roles within the Maoist organization, including membership in the Janatana Sarkar, militia, and Chetna Natya Mandli (a cultural wing). This surrender brings the total number of Maoists surrendering in the district since January 2024 to 71. During the same period, over 60 Maoists were killed and 50 arrested.

The success is largely attributed to the government’s rehabilitation policy, which provides housing and employment to surrendered Naxalites, and the police’s “Maad Bachao Abhiyan” (Maad Rescue Campaign). Each surrendered Maoist received a financial assistance of ₹25,000 and will undergo further rehabilitation. SP Kumar appealed to remaining Maoists to abandon their ideology and return to their communities.
