**NEW DELHI** – Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a scathing attack on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Tuesday, accusing him of falsely claiming the Haryana government poisoned the Yamuna River. Shah challenged Kejriwal to publicly release the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) report cited to support the allegation, and to name the alleged poison. He further questioned the purported order Kejriwal claimed prevented the contaminated water from entering Delhi. Shah characterized Kejriwal’s accusations as a “dirty political tactic” aimed at scaring Delhi’s residents.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) responded defiantly, asserting that the DJB confirms Kejriwal’s claims. They cited alarmingly high ammonia levels (6.5 ppm) rendering the water unsafe for consumption, and challenged the BJP to conduct a joint investigation with engineers from Haryana and Delhi, overseen by the Election Commission. The AAP also refuted the DJB CEO’s letter contradicting Kejriwal, claiming it was issued under BJP pressure.
Shah also targeted Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, criticizing his remarks about the religious significance of the Ganga river. Shah highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives for the poor, contrasting them with Kharge’s questioning of the value of the Ganga dip.
The verbal sparring took place amidst the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections on February 5th. Shah urged voters to reject both AAP and Congress, claiming corruption and broken promises under AAP’s rule, while highlighting the BJP’s development plans for Delhi under Modi’s leadership. He specifically cited India’s economic performance during the COVID-19 pandemic as evidence of BJP’s effective governance. Shah concluded his campaign by leading roadshows in several constituencies.
