**Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh –** The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) marked its 100th rocket launch on Wednesday with the successful deployment of the NVS-02 navigation satellite. The milestone mission, the first for ISRO’s new chairman V Narayanan, saw the GSLV-F15 rocket precisely inject the satellite into its intended geostationary transfer orbit (GTO). The launch, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, was also notable as the 17th flight of the GSLV and the 11th using an indigenous cryogenic stage.
The GSLV-F15, once dubbed the “naughty boy” of ISRO’s fleet due to a past 37% failure rate, performed flawlessly this time. This success underscores India’s mastery of cryogenic engine technology, a feat achieved despite earlier denials of technology transfer from Russia. ISRO subsequently released onboard footage of the launch, showcasing the event’s breathtaking spectacle. The agency celebrated the achievement on X, highlighting the continued inspiration of India’s space program. The successful launch of NVS-02, carried aboard a GSLV-F15 with a 3.4-meter metallic payload fairing, marks a significant step forward for India’s navigation capabilities.
