Tue Jan 28 18:51:46 UTC 2025: **Chennai Peripheral Ring Road Construction Progressing Well, Major Portion Expected to be Completed by Year-End**

CHENNAI, January 29, 2025 – A major portion of the 133-km Chennai Peripheral Ring Road (CPRR) is on track for completion by the end of 2025. Construction on the stretch from Tiruvallur Bypass to Sriperumbudur is progressing well, with one contractor, L&T, reporting 79% completion. Another contractor, SPK Ltd, has reached approximately 50% completion on this section. The section from Sriperumbudur to Singaperumalkoil is already finished.

While land acquisition for service lanes is ongoing, including navigating land swaps involving a reserved forest, the final section from Singaperumalkoil to Mamallapuram is awaiting tendering after securing financing and upgrading the planned four-lane road to six lanes. The initial section from Ennore Port to Thatchur is facing delays due to the relocation of several tanks and power transmission lines.

Upon completion, the CPRR will be the Highways Department’s first access-controlled road in Chennai. It will connect major national highways, including NH 5 (Chennai – Tada), NH 4 (Chennai – Bengaluru), NH 45 (Chennai – Tiruchi), and the East Coast Road.
