
Wed Jan 29 14:55:47 IST 2025: ## Chennai Corporation Removes Over 22,000 Tonnes of Waste in Three Weeks
**Chennai, January 29, 2025** – The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has announced the successful removal of over 22,000 metric tonnes of waste from the city between January 7th and 28th, 2025. This massive cleanup initiative involved the removal of 16,370 metric tonnes of construction debris and 5,900 metric tonnes of garbage.
The operation, launched by Mayor R. Priya on January 7th, initially focused on seven zones before expanding to all 15 zones of the city on January 17th. The cleanup encompassed roads, inner streets, bus stops, parks, burial grounds, and areas under flyovers and subways. The GCC also removed wall posters and unauthorized advertisement banners.
Collected waste and debris were transported to designated dumping sites in Perungudi and Kodungaiyur. The Corporation’s intensive cleaning drive highlights a significant effort to improve the city’s sanitation.
