Wed Jan 29 12:38:30 IST 2025: ## Hitman Sentenced to Life for Murder of Acquitted Air India Bombing Suspect

**Ottawa, Canada –** A hitman responsible for the 2022 murder of Ripudaman Singh Malik, a man acquitted in the 1985 Air India bombing, has been sentenced to life imprisonment. Tanner Fox pleaded guilty to second-degree murder alongside accomplice Jose Lopez. While both confessed to the killing, carried out in a Vancouver suburb, they have not revealed who orchestrated the hit. Lopez’s sentencing is pending.

Malik, along with Ajaib Singh Bagri, was acquitted two decades ago due to insufficient evidence in connection with the bombing of Air India Flight 182, which killed 331 people off the coast of Ireland. This act of terrorism, prior to 9/11, involved two suitcase bombs, one detonating on Flight 182 and another at Narita Airport in Japan. Both bombs were linked to Vancouver’s large Sikh community.

The attacks, occurring during an Indian crackdown on Sikh separatists, were allegedly motivated by revenge for the 1984 storming of the Golden Temple. Inderjit Singh Reyat remains the only person convicted in the bombing plot, for bomb-making and perjury. The case continues to highlight the complexities and lingering consequences of this devastating act of terrorism.
