Wed Jan 29 09:02:05 UTC 2025: ## ICC CEO Geoff Allardice Resigns Weeks Before Champions Trophy
**Dubai, UAE** – Geoff Allardice, the Chief Executive Officer of the International Cricket Council (ICC), has resigned from his position just weeks before the upcoming Champions Trophy. While the ICC’s official statement did not specify reasons, sources suggest concerns over Pakistan’s readiness to host the tournament played a significant role in his departure.
Allardice, 57, joined the ICC in 2012 and was appointed CEO in November 2021. In a statement, he expressed pride in his accomplishments but indicated it was the right time for a new challenge.
However, an anonymous ICC board member, speaking to PTI, cited issues including the ICC T20 World Cup in the USA (described as a logistical and financial failure) and, critically, Pakistan’s preparations for the Champions Trophy. Concerns remain about the readiness of stadiums in Karachi and Rawalpindi, with ongoing construction work posing a significant threat to the tournament’s timely commencement on February 19th. India will play its matches in Dubai due to security concerns in Pakistan.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah praised Allardice’s contribution, thanking him for his leadership and commitment. The search for a new CEO is now underway. The Champions Trophy, featuring the world’s top eight teams for the first time since 2017, is scheduled to proceed despite these behind-the-scenes challenges.
