Mon Jan 27 19:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Paarl Royals Extend SA20 Lead Despite Root’s Duck

**Paarl, South Africa:** The Paarl Royals solidified their position atop the SA20 table with a six-wicket victory over the Durban Super Giants, despite a first-ball duck from star batsman Joe Root. Root, previously the tournament’s leading run-scorer, was trapped lbw by Prenelan Subrayen. While initially deemed not out, a successful review by the Super Giants confirmed the dismissal.

Despite this early setback, the Royals successfully chased down a 144-run target from the penultimate ball. Rubin Hermann (59 runs) and Lhuan-dre Pretorius (43 runs) spearheaded the chase, their 91-run partnership proving crucial. Pretorius’ performance saw him overtake Root as the tournament’s leading run-scorer. Although both Hermann and Pretorius fell late in the innings, Dinesh Karthik (21) and Mitchell van Buuren (13*) guided the Royals to their seventh win in eight matches.

The Super Giants, featuring Marcus Stoinis (55*) and Kane Williamson (45), posted a competitive 143-7. However, their efforts were ultimately insufficient to prevent the Royals’ victory. The defeat leaves the Super Giants bottom of the table and eliminated from playoff contention.

The Royals now hold a seven-point advantage over MI Cape Town, though they have played one more game.
