Tue Jan 28 05:33:43 UTC 2025: ## Convicted Godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim Granted 20-Day Parole Again

**Rohtak, Haryana:** Controversial self-styled godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, serving a 20-year sentence for rape and other crimes, has been granted a 20-day parole, sources confirmed. This marks his twelfth parole since 2017. Ram Rahim, head of the Dera Sacha Sauda sect, was reportedly released from Sunaria jail in Rohtak at 5:26 am today. He is expected to spend his parole at the Dera Ashram in Sirsa, Haryana.

Ram Rahim was convicted in 2017 for raping two of his disciples and in 2019 for the murder of journalist Ram Chander Chhatarpati. While he was previously convicted in the 2002 murder of Ranjit Singh, a former sect manager, a High Court acquittal overturned that conviction in May 2024, citing flawed investigations. Ranjit Singh’s murder was linked to his alleged role in exposing sexual exploitation within the Dera Sacha Sauda.

His last parole, also for 20 days, concluded on October 2, 2024, with restrictions on political activities and public speaking. The conditions of his current parole remain unclear. The frequent paroles granted to Ram Rahim continue to generate significant controversy.
