**Puducherry, January 28, 2025** – Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy has appealed to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar for immediate intervention in securing the release of 13 Tamil fishermen apprehended by the Sri Lankan Navy on Monday. Six of the fishermen are from the Karaikal region of the Union Territory.

In a letter to Mr. Jaishankar, Mr. Rangasamy detailed the detention and requested priority action with the Sri Lankan government to secure their release. MP V. Vaithilingam echoed this appeal in a separate letter, stating that the fishermen, from Tamil Nadu and Karaikal, had set sail on Sunday before their capture on Monday.

Both officials emphasized the urgency of the situation and called for the immediate release of the fishermen and their boat. The incident highlights the ongoing tensions between Indian and Sri Lankan fishing communities.
