Tue Jan 28 15:18:20 UTC 2025: **Police Inspector Suspended After Double Murder in Palakkad**
PALAKKAD, INDIA – January 28, 2025 – A police inspector has been suspended following a double murder allegedly committed by a man released on bail. Mahendra Simhan M., inspector in charge of Nenmara police station, was suspended after a report revealed his failure to act on a complaint against Chenthamara, the accused, who violated his bail conditions.
Chenthamara, who was on bail with the condition that he not enter Nenmara police station limits, remained in the area for over a month. A complaint was filed by Sudhakaran, one of the victims, who reported Chenthamara’s presence and the threat to his life. Despite this, Inspector Simhan failed to take action and also neglected to inform the court of the bail violation. The District Police Chief’s report rejected Simhan’s claim of not receiving the bail order.
On Monday, Chenthamara murdered Sudhakaran and his mother, Lakshmi. He subsequently fled into the forest and remains at large. A massive police search, including an anti-Naxal team, is underway.
Sudhakaran’s daughter, Akhila, stated that the murders stemmed from superstition. Neighbors reported that Chenthamara, guided by an occultist, believed he gained supernatural powers after a previous murder in 2019 and intended to kill more people. The police investigation continues.
