Mon Jan 27 21:59:28 IST 2025: ## Fugitive Constable Surrenders in Bhopal Court After Rs 8 Crore Asset Seizure

**Bhopal, MP:** Saurabh Sharma, a former Madhya Pradesh Transport Department constable accused of amassing disproportionate assets, surrendered in a Bhopal court on Monday. Sharma, who had been on the run since December after Lokayukta police seized nearly Rs 8 crore in assets from properties linked to him, filed an application for surrender. However, the court adjourned his appearance until Tuesday, citing the need to obtain his case diary from the Lokayukta police.

The December raids revealed a staggering amount of wealth, including Rs 2.87 crore in cash, 234 kilograms of silver, and other assets such as jewellery, vehicles, and properties. The Lokayukta investigation alleges Sharma used money acquired through corruption to establish a school and hotel under the names of his family members and associates, Chetan Singh Gaud and Sharad Jaiswal. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Income Tax Department also launched parallel investigations following the initial Lokayukta raids. Further, the Income Tax department separately seized over Rs 10 crore in cash and 50 kg of gold from a car belonging to associate Chetan Singh Gaud.

Sharma, who was appointed as a constable on compassionate grounds in 2015 after his father’s death and subsequently took voluntary retirement in 2023, is facing charges of corruption and money laundering. The investigation continues.
