**RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA** – Brazilian superstar Neymar Jr. has abruptly ended his short-lived stint with Saudi Pro League champions Al Hilal, the club announced Tuesday. The departure, by mutual consent, comes just seven months into a reported €90 million ($98 million) transfer from Paris Saint-Germain and leaves the 32-year-old’s future uncertain.

Neymar’s time in Saudi Arabia was plagued by injury. A knee injury sustained during a World Cup qualifier in October hampered his progress, limiting him to a mere seven appearances for Al Hilal. Despite his illustrious career, including a record-breaking transfer to PSG in 2017 (€222 million, $232 million), the Brazilian’s impact on the Saudi club was significantly curtailed.

While Al Hilal made no official statement on Neymar’s next destination, Brazilian media outlets are speculating a return to his boyhood club, Santos, from which he departed in 2013 to join Barcelona.
