Mon Jan 27 16:09:16 UTC 2025: ## Kozhikode Corporation Council Debates Reinstatement of Suspended Officers Amidst Other Concerns

**Kozhikode, Kerala, January 27, 2025** – The Kozhikode Corporation Council witnessed heated exchanges on Monday between the ruling and opposition parties over the reinstatement of two officers suspended two years ago in connection with a building number scam.

The reinstatement, ordered by the Kerala High Court, sparked controversy. Congress councilor S.K. Aboobakker questioned the source of the compensation being paid to the officers, suggesting that the Corporation Secretary, K.U. Bini, should bear the costs due to her alleged fault. Ms. Bini clarified that the High Court upheld the suspension but mandated reinstatement, rejecting the officers’ claim for considering their suspension period as on-duty.

The opposition UDF accused the ruling front of a “whitewash,” citing procedural irregularities. Their protests, led by Deputy Mayor C.P. Musafar Ahamed, escalated when UDF councillors approached the Mayor’s podium.

Separately, concerns were raised regarding the stalled drinking water project in Eravathukunnu ward, which had previously caused a jaundice outbreak. UDF councilor Kavitha Arun urged immediate action, while Mayor Beena Philip noted similar problems in ten other wards and proposed a phased solution.

The Mayor rejected adjournment motions concerning the civil supplies crisis and a proposed brewery in Palakkad. The council meeting highlighted ongoing tensions within the local government and a range of pressing civic issues.
