Tue Jan 28 13:27:34 UTC 2025: ## Bumrah Bowls Over Competition, Wins Prestigious Sir Garfield Sobers Award
**Chennai, January 28, 2025:** Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been crowned the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year, winning the coveted Sir Garfield Sobers Award. The announcement was made at the ICC awards ceremony on Tuesday.
Bumrah, 31, dominated the bowling charts in 2024, taking an impressive 71 wickets at an average of just 14.92 and a strike rate of 30.1. His outstanding performance, which included a Player of the Series award in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with 32 wickets in five Tests, saw him beat out fellow nominees Travis Head, Joe Root, and Harry Brook.
This is the fifth time an Indian cricketer has received the Sir Garfield Sobers Award, following Rahul Dravid (2004), Sachin Tendulkar (2010), Ravichandran Ashwin (2016), and Virat Kohli (2017, 2018). Bumrah’s achievement is even more remarkable considering he also won the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year award on Monday and was named in the ICC Test Team of the Year alongside teammates Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravindra Jadeja. His remarkable 2024 season also saw him reach 200 Test wickets, becoming the only bowler with at least 200 dismissals to maintain an average under 20.
