**Chennai, India** – The Madras High Court has rejected a plea by Netflix India to dismiss actor Dhanush’s copyright infringement lawsuit against Nayanthara. Dhanush, known for his role in *Raanjhanaa*, sued Nayanthara, her husband Vignesh Shivan, and their production house, Rowdy Pictures, last November for using a three-second clip from his film *Naanum Rowdy Dhaan* in their Netflix documentary, *Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairy Tale*, without permission.
Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films also filed a separate petition to allow them to sue Los Gatos Production Services India LLP, Netflix’s Indian investment entity, in Tamil Nadu. The actor initially threatened legal action, including a demand for ₹10 crore (approximately $1.2 million USD) in damages, if the allegedly infringing footage wasn’t removed within 24 hours.
Nayanthara responded with an open letter on Instagram, criticizing Dhanush’s action and the financial demand for the brief clip usage. She also highlighted the cooperation she received from other filmmakers, including Shah Rukh Khan, Chiranjeevi, and Ram Charan, who readily granted permission to use footage from their films in her documentary. The court’s decision to refuse Netflix’s dismissal request means the copyright infringement case will proceed.
