**New Delhi, January 27, 2025** – Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar today issued a stark warning about the national security implications of illegal immigration, asserting that the millions of undocumented migrants residing in India pose a significant threat to the country’s sovereignty and democratic processes.
Addressing Rajya Sabha interns, Dhankhar emphasized that illegal migrants, who utilize India’s resources and compete for jobs intended for citizens, cannot be expected to embrace Indian nationalism. He highlighted their impact on electoral systems, societal harmony, and national security, urging immediate and decisive government action. “How can a nation suffer illegal migrants in millions? Is it not a challenge to our sovereignty?” he questioned. He stressed the urgency of addressing this issue, stating that “this problem and resolution of it cannot be delayed even by a day.”
While expressing concern over the scale of illegal immigration, Dhankhar also celebrated the strides made in development, citing increased access to basic amenities like toilets, gas connections, internet, and improved road and air connectivity as evidence of progress for the Indian people.
