Tue Jan 28 01:56:56 IST 2025: **Delhi BJP Candidate Kapil Mishra Defends Record Ahead of Assembly Elections**

NEW DELHI, January 28, 2025 – Kapil Mishra, the BJP’s candidate for the Karawal Nagar Assembly seat in the upcoming Delhi elections, has defended his controversial past and touted his ability to unite diverse communities. Mishra, who previously served as a Minister in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government before joining the BJP, was accused of making hate speeches prior to the 2020 northeast Delhi riots.

In an interview with The Hindu, Mishra denied the accusations, claiming he actively tried to prevent the violence and blaming the media for portraying him negatively. He asserted that his campaign is focused on development and that he enjoys the support of all communities in Karawal Nagar, including Purvanchalis, Dalits, and Muslims. He dismissed his image as a “Hindutva firebrand,” framing it as a result of his community work.

Mishra’s candidacy replaced sitting MLA Mohan Singh Bisht, who was moved to the neighboring Mustafabad constituency after threatening a revolt. He faces competition from AAP’s Manoj Tyagi and Congress’s P.K. Mishra. The election is scheduled for February 5th. Mishra’s campaign focuses on addressing the lack of infrastructure in Karawal Nagar, a constituency he previously represented while with the AAP.
